The Flex Program
At HCCA, we know every student learns differently, and families have busy, unique schedules. That's why our Flex learning model is the foundation of the HCCA experience, providing students with the freedom to learn on a schedule that works best for them while maintaining strong connections with their school community. Whether students are balancing appointments, extracurricular activities, arts programs, athletics, or other commitments, Flex offers the opportunity to personalize their learning day. Throughout the year, Eagle’s Nest teachers closely monitor attendance, engagement, and academic progress to help students stay on track. Students who need additional support or are not meeting expectations for participation and performance may be moved into a more structured instructional model to ensure they receive the guidance needed for success.
What is the Flex program?
Flex gives families greater control over when learning happens while maintaining the structure and support students need for success. Students can access lessons and class recordings throughout the day, allowing them to balance school with extracurricular activities, appointments, and other commitments. Eagle’s Nest teachers closely monitor attendance, engagement, and academic progress and partner with families to ensure students remain on track.
Flex is designed for flexibility — not reduced expectations. Students are still required to participate in testing, special services, interventions, and other mandatory school activities, and they are expected to make consistent academic progress. Students who are not meeting expectations for attendance, engagement, or achievement may be moved into a more structured schedule to provide additional support and accountability.

Optimize Your Learning Time
Flex lets your child complete most schoolwork when it works best for your family’s routine. Morning person or night owl? Flex makes it easy to optimize your student’s learning time, while still having structured accountability and any required support throughout the week and year.
Stay on Track With Support
Students in the Flex program aren’t required to attend live class sessions, except for specific academic support related to Special Education, English Language Learner (ELL) services, dyslexia support, or other school-required sessions. They can also attend virtual sessions as needed and transition back to a more traditional online school model at any time.
High-Quality Education, Greater Flexibility
Flex students use the same rigorous curriculum as traditional HCCA students. They attend regular check-ins, participate in assessments, and receive all required special services based on their learning needs. They also have access to a variety of other school programs. Flex ensures that learning and growth continue while giving families the freedom to manage their own routines.

Students with IEPs, English Learner plans, or other required services will still have mandatory sessions that are part of their individual plans.
Flex Student Requirements
To succeed, Flex students must follow certain requirements while learning at Hoosier College and Career Academy. Students are expected to maintain consistent passing grades, participate in regular check-ins, and respond to school outreach within 48 hours. All students must continue to meet school attendance and compliance expectations, including state testing, special services, interventions, and required IEP or MTSS sessions when applicable.

Flex Learning Coach Expectations
Learning Coaches play a key role in student success by:
- Establishing routines and monitoring learning time
- Supporting academic growth and encouraging problem-solving
- Teaching students to ask for help effectively from teachers
- Celebrating progress while allowing students to learn from productive struggle
Flex & Graduation
Flex students earn the same HCCA diploma as other students; transcripts do not indicate participation in Flex.
Graduation requirements are identical for all students, as set by the state.

How is Flex different from the structured learning model?
Flex is the default learning model at HCCA, providing students with greater flexibility in how they complete much of their coursework while remaining connected to school support systems. Students can access lessons and class recordings on their own schedule and are expected to manage their time, stay engaged, and make consistent academic progress.
Each student is assigned an Eagle’s Nest teacher who monitors attendance, engagement, and academic performance and provides ongoing support. Students who need additional accountability or are not meeting expectations may be transitioned to a more structured learning model that includes increased live instructional requirements and support sessions.
Is the curriculum the same for all students?
Yes! All students at HCCA, regardless of instructional model, use the same online platform, curriculum, and grade-level courses. Students also have access to social emotional learning opportunities, school events, clubs, and other activities offered through HCCA and K12.
Can students participate in both Flex and the structured learning model?
No. Students participate in one instructional model at a time. While Flex is the default model, students who require additional support with attendance, engagement, or academic progress may be transitioned to a more structured schedule. Likewise, students who demonstrate success in a structured model may have opportunities to return to Flex when appropriate.
Do siblings need to be in the same instructional model?
No. Each student’s instructional model is determined based on their individual needs, engagement, and academic success. It’s common for siblings in the same household to participate in different learning models.
What if Flex isn’t the right fit?
Student success is our top priority. Eagle’s Nest teachers regularly monitor attendance, engagement, and academic performance to ensure students are thriving in Flex. If a student is struggling to meet expectations, the school may recommend or require a transition to a more structured instructional model that provides additional live support, accountability, and teacher interaction. Families may also request additional support if they feel their student would benefit from a more structured schedule.
