Breaking Down Barriers to Career Opportunities
Recently, Ivy Tech Community College published a report indicating that Indiana will need to upskill or reskill more than 82,000 working Hoosiers every year over the next decade to keep pace with the state’s evolving workforce needs. At Hoosier College and Career Academy (HCCA), students can learn about the growing job needs in Indiana before making a decision on their career path after graduation.
How does HCCA prepare students for the workforce?
Data shows that 51% of Indiana’s graduating seniors pursued post-secondary education in 2023, meaning nearly half of graduates are pursuing other options. That’s why we focus on preparing students for the “3 E’s” after graduation:
- Enrollment in post-secondary educational institutions, such as colleges or trade schools.
- Enlistment in the armed forces.
- Employment in the workforce.
Online-based schools like HCCA can tailor learning pathways for individual students based on their intended career path and allow them to get real-world experience. Recently, we collaborated with a local makerspace, allowing an HCCA student to visit and learn about 3D printing, as well as gain hands-on experience. Another student has been working with a professional in the fashion design industry to begin building her portfolio.
How do I know if HCCA is the right fit for my child?
Our students come from multiple walks of life. HCCA students include those who:
- Come from military families.
- Travel, train, or work during the day.
- Are young parents.
- Have unique medical needs.
HCCA has also served as a haven for introverted students, those who have experienced bullying in person, and students who haven’t been successful in traditional school settings. Our students who once thought they would never make it to graduation now have teachers who offer one-to-one support to help them believe in themselves again.
Not all students succeed at traditional schools, but all students can thrive when virtual education is tailored to their needs. There are countless career paths open to students who are interested in entering the workforce, and HCCA can provide them with the education and skills to start down the path that speaks to them.
If your family is interested in enrolling a student in HCCA, there are four simple steps to enrollment:
- Choose how you would like to enroll – online, by phone, or by chat.
- Create an enrollment account.
- Submit an application and upload additional documents.
- Welcome to Hoosier College and Career Academy!
