Standing Together Against Bullying

Stories & Spotlights
Bullying Prevention

As we begin a new school year and approach National Bullying Prevention Month in October, it’s important to remember: preventing bullying takes a team effort. Despite our best intentions, bullying remains a serious concern—nearly 75% of U.S. parents with children under 18 worry their child may be bullied.

For many families, online schools offer a safe space where students can thrive. At Hoosier College and Career Academy (HCCA), students learn in a supportive, inclusive setting from the safety of home. In fact, 42% of K12 families chose online learning due to concerns about their previous school environment.

What You Can Do

If you’re concerned your child may be experiencing bullying, here are steps you can take:

  • Talk with your child in a calm, quiet space.
  • Reach out to school staff—teachers, counselors, and coaches can offer valuable insight and support.
  • Use trusted resources like PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center and StopBullying.gov to prepare for conversations.
  • Encourage empathy and kindness through regular discussions at home.

At HCCA, our Indiana-licensed teachers and staff are committed to creating a safe, inclusive environment where students feel supported and heard.

When Change Is Needed

If bullying continues despite intervention, it may be time to consider a new learning environment. Online schools like HCCA allow students to:

  • Focus on academics without social distractions
  • Build confidence and self-expression
  • Connect safely with peers through the K12 Zone, a moderated virtual space for chats, video calls, and group activities

Final Thoughts

While no parent can prevent every instance of bullying, you can be your child’s strongest ally. Trust your instincts, seek help when needed, and explore options that prioritize your child’s safety and success.
