“The most dynamic group I’ve ever met.” Student Council Advisor Amanda Moor on HCCA students, impact.
Amanda Moor always wanted to be a government teacher. After studying political science and international relations in college, she worked as a newspaper reporter and then in athletics at Notre Dame before becoming a teacher in 2017. She joined Hoosier College and Career Academy (HCCA) three years ago.
With her love for teaching government and her heart and desire to advance HCCA students, Amanda started and advises the HCCA Student Council.
What does the Student Council do?
- Represents the interests and voices of students in grades 7 through 12.
- Promotes school spirit, community involvement, and student engagement in the virtual learning environment.
- Facilitates communication between students, faculty, and administration.
- Organizes virtual events, activities, and service projects that enhance the student experience.
“This is the most dynamic group I’ve ever met,” Amanda shared of this year’s Student Council. “The group is fully student-led, I just help guide them. Their theme and focus for this year is ‘school engagement,’ and they’ve definitely proven students can be engaged in a virtual setting.”
In Fall 2025, the Student Council hosted three events:
- A holiday card-writing event where students wrote cards to give to their teachers and to community members in homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and nursing homes.
- A volunteer tutoring/studying event that they plan to continue hosting.
- A virtual assembly in which the Council researched different topics and events and presented slides to the entire student body.
“They’re already looking at events and cultural education they want to focus on this semester, including Holocaust Remembrance Day, Black History Month, Mental Health Awareness Week, and Spirit Week,” Amanda said. “They are also planning a multicultural fair in the K12 Zone with a virtual assembly kicking off in February.”
HCCA’s current Student Council consists of 30-45 members, and anyone from 7th-12th grade can join. Students can learn more here.
In addition to Amanda’s commitment to the Student Council and her classes, she also plays another HCCA role: parent. She has two daughters, one of whom is a 10th grader at HCCA.
An advocate for school choice, Amanda sees firsthand the powerful engagement, interactions, and dynamics students experience attending a virtual academy. She encourages any parent or student who is interested in learning more about enrolling at HCCA to check out our enrollment options and reach out with questions.
